Almost gone!
I leave tomorrow - all very exciting. Melbourne is putting on a fabulous display of its most charming weather. I think it's trying to guilt trip me. But I won't have it! I'm sure the weather must be better in Basel, Switzerland, which is my first stop. Warmer at least. More Swiss. Perhaps chocolate is raining from the skies. Swiss chocolate of course. I'll let you know once I get there.
Have just finished reading 'Middlesex' by Jeffrey Eugenides, which I recommend to everyone if you haven't already read it. I found a little bit in there that I want to quote, it seems relevant to this whole blog thing:
"...real life doesn't live up to writing about it."
The neighbour's dog Valley is having some sort of fit outside the window. Luckily the cats are inside, so it's nothing cat-related. Or at least, not *our*-cat-related. Should go and extract some purrs out of them while I still can...

Hi Esther von bitch!!! I wasn't invited on Saturday night either!!! Being halfway across the world is no reason to be rude!!! So you, quote, 'hate, hate, HATE group travel emails' eh? Well, I guess I'll just stop sending mine to you! Now see who's going to pick you up from the airport in Berlin! Bah, to you!
Oh, yeah, Middlesex is cool. I picked it up at a hostel bookswap in the Czech Rep. But just because your taste in books is good doesn't mean I want to be friends with you!!!
hey hey! sorry! *your* group travel emails are an exception because they still sound like you, rather than being all general and could be written by anyone, to anyone... you know, when the 'group' of the email is so broad. i guess it's when they're impersonal that i don't like 'em. (perhaps my language was a bit strong!) yours are also good because they tell us you're still breathing - what with them being kinda infrequent and all! ... oh, and i would have invited you on Sat if i'd known you could come!! next time, next time. Berlin perhaps?!
So, if that's the reason you like HER travel emails, why don't you write excellent ones too- since you're supposed to be the talented writer and all, and then it WOULD be a pleasure to get them, instead of them being just more junk mail. Who cares if everyone else is also reading the same thing? The only problem is, that when someone then replies, you (the traveller, generalisation) invariably don't have time to reply to all the comment individually. Whereas here everyone can read everyone else's conversations, so it's just like one great love in. How lovely.
BTW. Swiss cheese isn't all it's cracked up to be. What I would give for a nice piece of Tasty...
mmm, swiss cheese. melted. why don't you EAT IT?! ... oh, and even though we DON'T do the travel email thing, i see you have a dig at our enourmous blogs!!! FINE! hope the flight was ok, and you're not too exhausted. xxx
Howdy hoooooo :)
Middlesex... don't suppose it's anything like Middlemarch?! Which I have to read for lit (sigh, my last semester at uni and I'm stuck doing straight Arts to wind it all up, rrrrrr)...
I miss having a cat around the house. It's been a year and a half and every now and then I still feel that there should be a small furry animal to pick up and pat... siiiiiigh.
Having fun? :)
hey! i read middlemarch somewhere between amsterdam and paris - it was really much funnier than i expected. maybe i will read middlesex based ont he fact it has the samesort of title...
